Ice Bucket Challenge!
On Sunday, August 24, 2014, our Pastor, Father Hubert Wade, Jr. decided to answer the Ice Bucket challenge posed by one of St. Mary Star of the Sea parishoners (who just also happen to be one of the City of Ballinger's finest). Ernest Juarez challenged Fr. Wade in behalf of all who can benefit from the research for
, better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Not one to back away from a challenge for a good cause, Father Wade waited till the end of the 11:15 AM Celebration of the Mass to meet the challenge, as well as the challenger, 'head first' in front of the entrance to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Father Wade strategically located a chair at the top of the steps of the church. He, then, removed his vestments and met the 'ice bucket' contents clad in his traditional black slacks and black shirt with white collar.
One would think that sitting in the hot, West Texas sun would offset the effects of ice water. One would think that the cold water would serve to mildly cool a person down, especially when dressed in black clothing in near 100 degree weather. W R O N G !!! Just ask Father Wade.
